Run to the iBeat
Many runners have too slow a cadence. Mistaking a long stride as a 'reaching forward and plodding' action rather than a natural opening of the hips. Quicken your foot turn over to increase a natural spring in your step. This creates less contact with the ground. Watch the professionals – they never over-stride.
The iPhone app iBeat is a great way to help you maintain the correct cadence. It works as a metronome. Set it to between 180 and 190 bpm in 3/4 time and on each third beat make sure the opposite foot hits the ground in time to the beat – a bit like a waltz. ie Left right left, right left right. Maintain this cadence no matter what pace you're running at.
